Strategy within strategy must be to ensure that no outside entity exercises strategic control over any of us – Bainimarama
It is my personal belief as a proud Pacific Islander that we are the most resilient as a family, we speak most powerfully as a family, and we can only build our best possible future together as a family.
Speaking at the traditional welcoming ceremony for members of the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders, Fijian Prime Minister and President Voreqe Bainimarama said their collective prosperity must fundamentally guide the 2050 strategy for the Pacific Blue Continent. .
He says they need to be able to effectively address their key vulnerabilities over the long term.
Bainimarama asserts that economic, trade and resource management considerations, and key enablers that support these areas such as the rule of law, environmental protection, regional security and transportation must underpin their cooperation through this strategy.
He says that one of the main focuses of the Forum Leaders’ Retreat later this week will be the issue of regional solidarity and how best for them, as a Forum family, to strengthen and galvanize their unity.
The Forum chair says they simply cannot make the same difference to people’s health, safety and prosperity, without every Pacific voice helping chart the course for the region’s leadership.
